Blaine Performing Arts Center
975 H St
Blaine, WA 98230

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lieutenant Leslee Smith, who dedicated over 22 years of courageous service to North Whatcom Fire and Rescue, before her retirement in 2021.

Leslee was diagnosed with a cancer related to her occupation, stemming from hazardous exposures during her firefighting duties. She battled this illness with the same courage and resolve she exhibited in her service. Despite the cancer ultimately claiming her life, her selfless sacrifice and impact on her community will endure in memory.

Leslee served as a volunteer with the city of Blaine, was North Whatcom Fire & Rescue’s first career female firefighter, and their first female officer.

From our brothers and sisters at North Whatcom Fire and Rescue, “Leslee was more than firefighter; she was a hero and a friend.  She will forever be remembered as a trailblazer firefighter and courageous guardian of our community.  Thank you Leslee, for your many years of fearless and noble service.  You will be missed but never forgotten.  You can rest easy now, we’ve got it from here.”

Her service will be held on Saturday, June 29 in the Performing Arts Center at Blaine School District at 1:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.
