“They were a calm presence in one of the most traumatic moments of my life.”

When her eight-month-old suffered second-degree burns to his palms from the glass fireplace, she called 911 and Whatcom County Fire District 1 arrived in what felt like seconds. The crew soothed her son, got them safely to the hospital, and even followed up with advice on a safety gate. A year later, the paramedic still remembers them and asks how her son is doing. Hey Nooksack! Your local firefighters need your help. District 1 currently has 10 career firefighters, and five of those positions are funded by a grant that is running out soon. Without new funding, the district won’t be able to fully staff its stations, which means longer response times for you, your family, and your neighbors.
